Designed by Matt “Fitz” Fitzgerald, the O.C.T. is a first-time knife design done right. From the flowing grind lines to the contoured aluminum handle, every detail shows Fitz’s design chops and just a touch of that “Old College Try” grit. Featuring a 1.9” Wharncliffe blade, buttery-smooth button lock, 14C28N steel and a knife that comes in three awesome colors. This is the black handle with black PVD coated blade.

THE Black O.C.T. Pocket Knife

Say hello to the O.C.T. (Old College Try), our very first button lock knife and a brand-new chapter in the Knafs story. If the Lander line was our Apollo mission, this little guy is our Space Shuttle: compact, powerful, and ready to usher in the next generation of adventurers.

The O.C.T. was designed in-house by Matt Fitzgerald and mentored by Ben. It came about during his time at Utah State University, born from late-night study sessions, cardboard prototypes, and a challenge from Ben to “give it the old college try.” He put in the hours with two full prototyping rounds, endless tweaks to ergonomics, and a hard fight to keep a small blade with a good grip. The result? A fidget-friendly knife that feels bigger than it looks.

The O.C.T. packs a 1.9" 14C28N steel blade, buttery-smooth ceramic bearings, and a snappy button lock that’s ridiculously fun to flick open and close. The 6063 aluminum handle gives it a lightweight, premium feel, while the grind lines and handle contours flow perfectly for a natural grip. Plus, we worked with Bestech—masters of the button lock—to make sure the action is dialed in to perfection.

Every detail tells a story: the button’s texture is inspired by the iconic Old Main building at Utah State. The reversible deep-carry clip tucks it neatly away, and the integrated lanyard hole is perfect for a booster bead add-on.

The O.C.T. represents more than a new knife. It’s opportunity in blade form. It’s our first button lock, our first Bestech-made knife, and Fitz's first maker’s mark on a blade. This is Knafs growing, taking risks, and giving it everything we’ve got.

Wharncliffe Blade

The O.C.T. rocks a modified Wharncliffe blade in a pint-sized 1.9” that (probably) won't get you into trouble while crossing state lines (we are not your lawyer. We are not anyone’s lawyer. This is not legal advice.) It’s got the utility-driven edge of a Wharncliffe with a hint of sheepsfoot flair, making it perfect for everyday slicing without looking like you’re wielding a mini sword. Crafted from 14C28N steel, this blade is tough, sharp, and ready to rip through Amazon boxes, snack bags, or whatever adventure you throw at it—all while keeping things friendly and unintimidating.

Button Lock

The O.C.T. marks our very first button lock, built in collaboration with Bestech. These folks know how to nail buttery-smooth button locks, making this knife an instant fidget favorite at your desk or on the go. The button itself has a unique texture inspired by the historic Old Main building on USU’s campus, a little nod to where this design first took shape during long days of college grind. Smooth action, solid lockup, and a touch of campus history all in one slick little button.

The O.C.T. is the brainchild of Matt Fitzgerald (Fitz to the crew) who designed this knife while wrapping up his degree in Outdoor Product Design and Development. Trained by both the books and mentored by Ben, Fitz poured everything he learned in school and everything Ben knows into this design. His favorite detail is the ergonomic grip and the way the grind lines flow seamlessly into the contoured aluminum handle. This is Fitz’s first full knife design, and he wasn’t about to phone it in. After two rounds of prototypes, countless late nights, and plenty of cardboard mockups, the O.C.T. came to life—small, fidget-friendly, and packed with thoughtful details only a maker obsessed with knives would add.
